Field Characteristics of Sedimentary Rocks in the Dohol Formation, Johor, Peninsular Malaysia

چکیده
Abstract The Dohol formation is predominantly composed of sedimentary rocks; however, the black shales attract much attention because their potential to generate hydrocarbons. Black generally have a high organic matter content and can serve as good source rocks for hydrocarbon generation. Therefore, this study was conducted characterize rocks, including shales, which are great importance discover new areas where these be located. Four distinctive lithofacies were observed on field; massive facies, light grey facies with quartzite intrusion in some areas, red sandy dark brown facies. dark-coloured, laminated, parts fissile. second type shale, grey, looks similar but it probably contains less matter. In other intrusions quartzite. third shale sandy, fissile, highly weathered, pebbly sands overlie it. Finally, flaky, weathered. sandstones encountered cream-colored, mainly quartz few scour marks areas. Several outcrop locations discovered, they spread across Jemaluang, Kota Tinggi, outskirts Mersing town East Johor. From trends features rock sequence, deposition environment from shallow deep marine.

Pattern formation in sedimentary rocks: Connectivity, permeability, and spatial correlations
Sedimentary rocks have complicated permeability patterns arising from the geological processes that formed them. We concentrate on pattern formation in one particular geological process, avalanches (grain flow) in wind-blown or fluvial sands. We present a simple experiment and numerical model of how these avalanches cause segregation in particle size that lead to characteristic laminated patter...
متن کاملsimulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water
abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
Sedimentation and Sedimentary Rocks
Sedimentary rocks are one component of the modern threefold classification of rocks. They derive from the lithification of sediments, which are produced in basically two ways: by the mechanical deposition of grains derived from the alteration of other rocks (detrital or clastic rocks), or as chemical precipitates or grains formed organically or inorganically from an aqueous solution. The whole ...
متن کاملEdge detection in gravity field of the Gheshm sedimentary basin
Edge detection and edge enhancement techniques play an essential role in interpreting potential field data. This paper describes the application of various edge detection techniques to gravity data in order to delineate the edges of subsurface structures. The edge detection methods comprise analytic signal, total horizontal derivative (THDR), theta angle, tilt angle, hyperbolic of tilt angle (H...
متن کاملReliability assessment of Needle Penetration Index for estimating compressive strength of some sedimentary rocks from the Qom Formation, Central Iran
In this paper, the needle penetrometer test was utilized to explore the reliability of the Needle Penetration Index (NPI) for estimating the Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) of sedimentary rocks including gypsum, marl, siltstone and sandstone collected from the Qom Formation. Following the UCS and NP test, regression analyses were carried out to control the predictive performances of NPI. ...
